Residential Schools for Rural Talent • Government of India
Are a system of central schools for talented students predominantly from rural area in India. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. Each Vidyalaya has provision for a full-fledged campus with sufficient building for classrooms, dormitories, staff-quarters, dining-hall and other infrastructural facilities viz. play-grounds, workshops, library and labs etc. JNVs are fully residential and co-educational schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII standard.
Admission is through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) conducted by CBSE for Class VI.
Candidates must be between 9 to 13 years of age and studying in Class V during the academic session.
Students must have studied in a recognized school in a rural area for the prescribed period as per JNV norms.
75% seats are reserved for rural candidates. Reservation is applicable for SC/ST, OBC, Divyang and girl students as per Government norms.

The examination is generally conducted in the month of April. Notifications are issued by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
